Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large class of synthetic chemicals that present numerous analytical challenges, including their widespread presence in a variety of environmental samples, occurrence of isomers for some compounds, and precursor transformations that may occur during preservation and storage of the samples. The strength of the carbon-fluorine bond in all PFAS creates attractive characteristics for industrial applications, and they are used in our everyday lives, including many consumer products for stain resistance, non-stick materials and waterproofing. The very characteristics that made PFAS attractive for application in industrial and commercial industries have made them problematic in our environment as they are very resistant to degradation. PFAS are known to be:
Genesis Environmental Group, LLC has extensive experience sampling groundwater, surface water, potable water, wastewater effluent and biosolids to help better understand the extent of the impacts. Genesis can provide environmental services to meet client needs and budget constraints to alleviate actual and perceived risks. Currently, there are no federally enforced environmental standards, however where PFOS and PFOA exceed the USEPA health advisories or state regulatory requirements, drinking water must be addressed through intervention. Our PFAS services include:
